Also, I removed a small white sign on above his shoulders as it dragged away the eye from his hands. Ethical question, should I have, or not? I usually do not - yet, in some cases, if the essence of the picture remains the same one can have a certain leeway. As Steve McCurry has recently said in response to allegations of using photoshop to alter his pictures, "Some would say that was wrong, but I thought it was appropriate because the truth and integrity of the picture were maintained" - see the article here. I got there a bit too "early", meaning that the guy was there still pissing - and I just stood by with my camera. Of course you don't take the picture while he's pissing, cmon that would be too much. So they first asked me if I could take a picture of them, and then asked them if I could do the same with my camera. Picture-wise, shooting with an 85mm is such a joy for portraits, as the foreground and background collapse much closer, and the effect on people's features is much more flattering. She was two years old, and miraculously survived. At 10, she developed leukemia. As she was hospitalized, she decided not to give up, and started folding origami with every piece of paper she could find, even if it meant going to other patients asking for the wrapping paper of gifts given to them. Her roommate told her that whoever could fold 1000 origami cranes would be granted a wish by the Gods. Thus, she relentlessly kept on folding. Unfortunately, she died before she could finish, reaching only 644 cranes. Her classmated folded the rest, and buried the total 1000 with her. After having visited an お茶や (ochaya, a tea house) during the daily hours, I got to meet the owner: Baba-san. Such a lovely lady, we engaged in a very pleasant conversation about the role of the tea houses as the historical locations where private parties with geishas are held, consuming a kaiseki dinner, playing games and being entertained by the arts geishas specialise in: singing, playing instruments, acting. I got invited to attend, behind the rice-paper doors, one of such parties held by a local doctor, and was amazed by it. Later, before they would leave the tea house in a taxi already waiting for them outside the door, I got introduced to Sozuka, and could take a nice portrait of her. Trying to escape the tourist-heavy river Yangshuo, I found a deserted patch of land, crossed by a river, with water buffalos in there. Beautiful and peaceful. As if to add a mystery to it, at one point an umbrella came down floating on the river, and decided to pass exactly below such a branch leaning onto the water.
